This Memorial requests the Workforce Solutions Department to establish a task force to finalize recommendations for legislation establishing a paid family and medical leave program in New Mexico, aiming to address the current lack of adequate leave for workers facing serious medical conditions or caregiving responsibilities, particularly for women, communities of color, and small businesses which are often unable to afford employer-provided paid leave. The task force, composed of representatives from various advocacy groups, labor organizations, businesses, and academic institutions, is charged with developing a plan for a state-administered trust fund to finance the program and is required to submit its report, including economic projections and implementation costs, to the Governor and the Legislature by October 1, 2022.
