AI Summary
This bill aims to protect and promote quality civic education in Washington's public schools. It requires all public schools to provide a mandatory, year-long civics course for grades K-8 that covers the fundamental principles of American self-government, the history of civic engagement and social movements, and key historical documents. The bill also prohibits public school teachers and employees from being compelled to discuss certain controversial topics, such as critical race theory, in a manner that gives deference to a particular perspective. Additionally, it prohibits the state, school districts, and public schools from requiring teachers to participate in training that promotes certain race or sex-based stereotypes or scapegoating.
