This bill requires health plans issued or renewed in Washington state on or after January 1, 2024, to include coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility, as well as standard fertility preservation services. The bill defines infertility as the failure to establish a pregnancy or carry a pregnancy to live birth after regular, unprotected sexual intercourse for a certain period of time, or the inability to reproduce without medical intervention. The coverage must be provided to the same extent as other pregnancy-related benefits, with certain limitations on exclusions, cost-sharing, and other restrictions. The bill also creates an exception in the event the state is required to defray the cost of this coverage for individual or small group health plans.
