This bill amends the Natural Heritage Conservation Act to authorize the acquisition of land, conservation and agricultural easements, and other interests in land for conservation purposes. It expands the definition of "conservation project" to include the acquisition of such interests, and allows the Department of Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources to acquire these interests and make grants to qualified entities, such as state agencies, educational institutions, and Indian tribes, for conservation projects. The bill also requires any conservation projects involving a conservation entity to include at least 10% contribution from the entity and co-tenancy with a qualified entity. Additionally, the bill prohibits the use of eminent domain or condemnation to acquire land or interests under the Act.
