This bill amends the existing law on organized retail theft in Washington state. It increases the minimum value of stolen property required for a person to be guilty of organized retail theft from $750 to $5,000 for the first-degree offense and maintains the $750 threshold for the second-degree offense. The bill also adds a new provision that considers theft committed by a principal and their accomplices together, allowing for the value of the stolen property to be aggregated when determining the degree of the offense. Additionally, the bill requires the prosecuting jurisdiction to promptly notify the affected mercantile establishment if a request to aggregate the prosecution is declined.
