This Memorial requests that the General Services Department and the Historic Preservation Division of the Cultural Affairs Department, which are state government agencies responsible for managing state property and preserving historical sites, respectively, conduct a study and create recommendations for how to memorialize and preserve the birthplace of Dolores Huerta. Dolores Huerta is a renowned Mexican-American social activist and labor leader, co-founder of the United Farm Workers, and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, who was born in Dawson, New Mexico, a former coal mining town that is now abandoned. The memorial also specifies that these recommendations should be presented to a legislative committee by October 1, 2022, and that copies of the memorial should be sent to the heads of the General Services and Cultural Affairs departments, as well as to Dolores Huerta herself.
