This bill requires the Alabama State Department of Education to develop a comprehensive program to address the mental health of students (Tier II students) who are considered at-risk for developing inadequate social-behavioral skills, such as ADHD or anger management issues. The program will provide ongoing support for teachers, one-on-one or small group mental health consultations for students, and age-appropriate social skills curricula. The bill also requires the Department to develop a safe and supportive schools framework to promote a positive, healthy, and inclusive school environment. Additionally, the bill mandates that each local school board employ a mental health service coordinator and complete a needs assessment and resource map for their school system.
