This bill amends the existing law to allow public employees who have retired to return to work for affiliated public employers under certain conditions. The key provisions include: 1) the retired member must have been retired for at least 12 consecutive months before returning to work; 2) the retired member's pension, including any cost-of-living adjustments, will continue to be paid during the period of subsequent employment; 3) the retired member will not become a member or accrue service credit during the subsequent employment; 4) both the retired member and the employer will be required to make contributions during the subsequent employment period; and 5) the subsequent employment can last for up to 36 consecutive or non-consecutive months. The bill also provides some exceptions to these requirements for certain types of public employment, such as legislative session work or serving as an elected official.
