This bill requires the Iowa Department of Human Services to adopt rules, amend Medicaid managed care contracts, and apply for Medicaid plan amendments or waivers to provide Medicaid coverage for maternity care, including doula care. Doulas are trained professionals who provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to pregnant individuals before, during, and after childbirth to improve birth outcomes, prevent stillbirths and infant deaths, and reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.
