This bill clarifies the statutory exemptions from mandatory immunization requirements for child care centers and school attendance in New Jersey. It provides for two types of exemptions: (1) a medical exemption based on a statement from a licensed healthcare provider that the vaccine is medically contraindicated, which may be reviewed and approved by the local health department; and (2) an exemption for a child or student whose sibling experienced a vaccine injury, which requires approval by the Department of Health. The bill also allows non-public child care centers, preschools, schools, and higher education institutions to admit children or students who are not fully vaccinated, provided certain disclosure and consent requirements are met. Additionally, the bill updates the New Jersey Immunization Information System to include records of approved medical and sibling vaccine injury exemptions.
