This bill permits the use of preferred names on student diplomas. It requires public and private schools, colleges, and other licensed academic institutions to allow graduating students to request that their diploma list their preferred name, without requiring legal documentation of a name change. The bill also requires schools to update former students' records upon receiving documentation of a legal name or gender change, and to reissue documents like transcripts and diplomas with the updated information. The bill allows schools to charge a nominal fee for reissuing such documents.
