This bill requires the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to develop and adopt a Statewide plan within one year to reduce public exposure to lead in the environment. The DEP will use existing soil testing results, public water supply and private well testing data, and other relevant information to designate geographic areas where lead in soils or drinking water poses the greatest danger of exposure to the public. The DEP will identify public moneys that may be used to address the risks of exposure to lead and prioritize the expenditure of these funds to remediate soils or drinking water supplies. The DEP will also develop a public education program to ensure widespread dissemination of information about the health risks posed by lead exposure and measures to minimize those risks. The Statewide plan will be posted on the DEP's website and submitted to the Legislature, and it will be updated at least once every five years.
