This bill requires health insurance carriers in New Jersey to provide coverage for the costs associated with home childbirth. The coverage must be provided to the same extent as for any other healthcare services under the health benefits plan. "Carrier" is defined to include insurance companies, health service corporations, hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, and health maintenance organizations that are authorized to issue health benefits plans in the state, as well as any entity contracted to administer health benefits for the State Health Benefits Program or School Employees' Health Benefits Program. The bill applies to all health benefits plans currently in effect or that are delivered, issued, executed, or renewed in New Jersey on or after the effective date of the act.
