This bill specifies a minimum 20-year planning duration for the New Jersey Statewide Water Supply Plan and adds new requirements for the plan. Specifically, it requires the plan to include projections of net water availability for each major water supply source in the state for at least 20 years, measures for the protection of ecologically sensitive water supply sources, an assessment of the potential impacts of climate change on water supply sources for at least 40 years, a plan to address all existing and projected water supply deficits, and an evaluation of water use efficiency and a plan to increase efficiency and reduce water loss. The bill also prohibits the Department of Environmental Protection from allocating funding from the Water Supply Bond Act of 1981 until it has adopted appropriate revisions and updates to the Statewide Water Supply Plan as required by the bill.
