This bill requires newly constructed townhouses in New Jersey, for which a construction permit has not been declared complete before the effective date of the bill, to be installed with an automatic fire sprinkler system. The bill directs the Commissioner of Community Affairs to adopt rules and regulations to amend the one- and two-family dwelling subcode of the State Uniform Construction Code to establish standards for the design and construction of townhouses to comply with this requirement. The bill defines "automatic fire sprinkler system" and "townhouse" for the purposes of the legislation. The bill takes effect seven months after enactment, but the Commissioner may take anticipatory action to implement the provisions.
