Bill Summary

AN ACT To repeal sections 50.327 and 58.095, RSMo, and to enact in lieu thereof two new sections relating to the compensation of county coroners.

AI Summary

This bill modifies the provisions relating to the salaries of county coroners in Missouri. The key changes are: 1. The salary commission in each county (except charter counties) will be responsible for computing the salaries of all county officials, except for the county coroner. The commission can increase the salaries of other officials by up to $2,000, but this would not apply to the county coroner. 2. For counties not having a charter form of government, the county coroner's annual compensation can be increased by up to $14,000 more than the compensation provided in the existing salary schedule, subject to approval by the county salary commission. 3. The annual compensation of the county coroner cannot be less than the previous year's compensation, except upon a two-thirds vote of the county salary commission. The bill also repeals and reenacts the existing sections related to county coroner compensation to incorporate these changes.
