This bill directs the Secretary of Higher Education to appoint and convene the New Jersey Public Interest Technology Network, a network of academics and researchers from New Jersey's public institutions of higher education, to propose new curriculum, collaborations, and initiatives to advance the emerging field of public interest technology. The network is directed to, among other efforts: · support the development of curriculum and faculty that enable the interdisciplinary education of students; · develop experiential learning opportunities with public and private sector partners in the field of public interest technology; · identify ways to support graduates who pursue careers working in public interest technology; and · create mechanisms for faculty to receive recognition for their work in the field of public interest technology. As used in the bill, "public interest technology" means an interdisciplinary field dedicated to: the examination of the social, ethical, legal, and policy implications of technology; and the identification of ways to leverage technology to support public interest organizations and the people they serve.
