This Resolution amends Senate Rule 7-1-3, which pertains to senators who have tested positive for or been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19. The amendment clarifies that senators who test positive or have close contact with an infected individual must inform their floor leader or whip. For senators who have been in close contact but are fully vaccinated, they may continue to be physically present in the capitol if they provide a negative SARS-CoV-2 test. Unvaccinated senators who have been in close contact must either be excused from sessions or self-isolate outside the capitol and participate remotely via electronic means, ensuring they are visually present or confirm their presence by voice if participating by telephone, and continue this isolation until medically advised otherwise.
