This bill amends the Radioactive and Hazardous Materials Act in New Mexico. It prohibits the storage or disposal of spent fuel and high-level radioactive waste in the state, and adds the commissioner of public lands as a member of the Radioactive Waste Consultation Task Force. The task force's duties are expanded to include coordinating investigations and studies related to new federal and private radioactive waste disposal facilities within the state and disseminating that information. The bill also updates the definition of "disposal facility" to include surface, subsurface, and underground facilities designed for the temporary or permanent isolation of radioactive materials, waste, or spent fuel. Additionally, the bill declares an emergency, requiring the act to take effect immediately.
