This Memorial, passed by the House of Representatives, officially designates January 27, 2022, as "Gallup/McKinley County Day" to recognize and celebrate the significant contributions and unique characteristics of this region in New Mexico. The designation highlights Gallup and McKinley County's role as a gateway to the state, their rich cultural and economic diversity, and their substantial Native American population, including members of the Navajo Nation and the Pueblo of Zuni, and their hosting of the intertribal Indian ceremonial, which in 2022 marked its centennial. The memorial also acknowledges the county's geographical significance with the continental divide, Gallup's historic downtown and designation as a New Mexico MainStreet and arts and cultural district, its reputation as the "adventure capital of New Mexico" with renowned trails, its patriotic spirit and status as home to a state-national veterans cemetery, its historical importance as a commerce center along the BNSF railway, and the presence of the Gallup energy logistics park, a site designated for economic development. Copies of this resolution will be sent to the local government officials of Gallup and McKinley County.
