This Joint Resolution proposes to amend the New Mexico Constitution to grant the State Ethics Commission the sole authority to review and set salaries for all elected officials in the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of state government every two years, removing the legislature's current power to set salaries for executive and judicial branch officials and any limitations on legislative compensation. Additionally, it would transfer the responsibility of appointing two members of different political parties to the State Ethics Commission from the legislatively appointed members to the Supreme Court. The resolution also makes conforming changes to various sections of the constitution related to judicial and magistrate compensation and repeals specific constitutional provisions.
