This Concurrent Resolution acknowledges the significant advancements in understanding how traumatic childhood experiences, referred to as Adverse Childhood Experiences or ACEs, negatively impact brain development and can lead to long-term physical, mental, and social challenges for both children and adults. It highlights that these experiences, which can include abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction, can result in difficulties with learning, relationships, employment, and an increased risk of substance abuse, criminal justice involvement, and chronic health problems. The resolution encourages state officers, agencies, and employees who work with vulnerable populations, such as those in education, health and welfare, corrections, labor, and the courts, to educate themselves about these detrimental effects and to implement evidence-based practices and interventions designed to build resilience in individuals who have experienced trauma, thereby helping them to recover and reach their full potential.
