This bill enhances death benefits for peace officers, New Mexico Mounted Patrol members, and reserve police officers killed in the line of duty. It increases the supplemental death benefit from $250,000 to $1 million, to be paid to the surviving spouse, children, or parents. The bill also makes changes to the distribution of funds from the Law Enforcement Protection Fund, including increasing the minimum balance of the Peace Officers', New Mexico Mounted Patrol Members', and Reserve Police Officers' Survivors Fund from $350,000 to $1 million. Additionally, it increases the rate of distribution for municipal, school district, and university police departments and county sheriff's departments from $45,000 to $95,000.
