This bill amends existing law regarding the lease and purchase of county buildings. Key provisions include: (1) Authorizing county commissioners to erect or furnish a courthouse, jail, and other necessary public buildings, and provide offices and furniture for certain county officials; (2) Allowing county commissioners to enter into leases for courthouse premises, rooms, and jail for up to 5 years, or up to 30 years if approved by a majority of voters; (3) Permitting county commissioners to contract with responsible parties for the leasing of a courthouse, jail, and hospital, or fairground buildings and facilities, with an option for the county to acquire the property at the end of the lease; and (4) Requiring the county to provide necessary books of record and stationery for county officers. The bill also declares an emergency and states that it will take effect on July 1, 2022.
