AI Summary

This bill amends the Safe Haven for Infants Act to allow persons to leave infants in "surrender safety devices" at safe haven sites, such as hospitals, law enforcement agencies, fire stations, and daycare facilities, without facing criminal prosecution for abandonment or abuse of a child. The bill defines the requirements for these surrender safety devices, including that they must be staffed 24/7, have a transparent door for viewing and retrieving the infant, and be equipped with an alarm. The bill also provides immunity from liability for safe haven sites that accept infants or operate these devices, and requires the Public Education Department to promulgate rules for educating students about the Safe Haven for Infants Act. Additionally, the bill appropriates funds to install these surrender safety devices at state-owned safe haven sites and to educate students about the Act.
