This Memorial requests that the Department of Public Safety convene a task force to study and propose incentives aimed at improving law enforcement officer retention in New Mexico, specifically for officers who serve for twenty-five years or for those hired from out-of-state agencies. The task force will be comprised of representatives from various law enforcement agencies, government bodies, and community organizations, and it is mandated to present its findings and recommendations to the appropriate legislative committee by November 1, 2022, in response to rising crime rates and existing officer shortages exacerbated by factors like the COVID-19 pandemic and national calls for police reform.
