This bill amends certain sections of the New Mexico Insurance Code and the Health Care Purchasing Act to require hearing aid coverage for certain persons. The key provisions are: 1. Group health care coverage, including self-insurance, must provide coverage for hearing aids, with a limit of one hearing aid per ear within a 24-month period. The coverage must cover the full cost of one hearing aid per hearing-impaired ear, up to $2,200. 2. Individual or group health insurance policies, health care plans, and health maintenance organization contracts must also provide similar hearing aid coverage, with the same $2,200 limit per hearing-impaired ear. 3. The hearing aid coverage must include fitting and dispensing services provided by licensed audiologists, hearing aid dispensers, or physicians. 4. Insurers may offer additional hearing aid coverage that exceeds the minimum requirements. 5. The coverage requirements apply to most health insurance policies, with exceptions for short-term, accident-only, or limited/specified disease policies.
