This bill restricts access to motor vehicle accident reports under certain circumstances. It amends existing law to delay the public availability of such reports until at least 90 days after the accident, but allows investigators and claim representatives employed by insurers, vehicle owners and passengers, law enforcement and other governmental employees, and individuals claiming personal injury or property damage as a result of the accident, to access the reports and information contained within them prior to the 90-day period. The bill also clarifies that the law does not prohibit law enforcement agencies from making information from accident reports available as authorized by existing law or require the withholding of information concerning a criminal investigation.
