This bill, the "HOPE Initiative Act," requires the establishment of a comprehensive multicultural public awareness campaign to educate citizens about the dangers and causes of, and appropriate responses to, the heroin and opioid addiction epidemic in New Jersey. The campaign, known as the "Heroin and Opioid Drug Public Education (HOPE) Initiative," will use various media channels to disseminate information about the pathways to opioid abuse and heroin use, the effects and warning signs of addiction, the availability of treatment and naloxone, and the legal protections for individuals seeking medical assistance for a drug overdose. The Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services will oversee the campaign, monitor its impact, and make adjustments as needed to ensure its effectiveness in reaching and influencing different target audiences.
