This bill requires the Motor Vehicle Administration to mandate participation in the Ignition Interlock System Program for certain individuals convicted of or granted probation before judgment for driving while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two. The program requires the installation of an ignition interlock device in the individual's vehicle for specified periods, ranging from 6 months to 3 years, depending on the number of times the individual has been required to participate. The bill also allows courts to order longer participation periods and suspends an individual's license until they successfully complete the program if they fail to participate or complete it. The bill takes effect on October 1, 2022.
