This bill amends existing law to revise the provisions regarding grand theft and provide for the crime of grand theft in certain instances. Specifically, it increases the value threshold for grand theft from $1,000 to $2,500, expands the definition of grand theft to include additional scenarios such as theft from a person or theft as part of a common scheme or plan, and creates a new provision for repeat offenders who have been convicted of grand theft or a similar crime within the past 7 years. The bill also clarifies the punishments for different categories of grand theft and petit theft.
