This bill creates a Military and Veterans Affairs Oversight Board in the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The board is responsible for overseeing all veteran service officers, boards, councils, commissions, programs, and entities within the Department, as well as all programs, benefits, and services provided to military service members, veterans, and their families by any State Executive Branch department, division, commission, or agency. The board consists of the heads of veteran 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) tax-exempt organizations in the state, and the American Legion Department of New Jersey, Disabled American Veterans Department of New Jersey, and Department of New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars serve as the initial co-chairs. The board is required to meet monthly, conduct analyses and evaluations of the state's programs and services for military members, veterans, and their families, and provide reports and recommendations to the Governor and Legislature to address any deficiencies.
