Bill Summary

This bill authorizes the issuance of a series of special license plates honoring the military academies that represent the five branches of the United States military. The bill provides that the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (chief administrator), in consultation with the Adjutant General of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs, is to select the design and color scheme for each of the military academy license plates. In addition to the registration number and other markings or identification otherwise prescribed by law, a license plate is to be created to honor each of the following: 1) The United States Military Academy; 2) The United States Naval Academy; 3) The United States Air Force Academy; 4) The United States Merchant Marine Academy; and 5) The United States Coast Guard Academy. In addition to all fees otherwise required by law for the registration of a motor vehicle, there is a fee of $15 for the military academy license plates. The chief administrator is required to notify eligible motorists of the opportunity to obtain a set of military academy license plates by publicizing the availability of the license plates on the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission's website.
