This bill amends existing Idaho law to revise provisions regarding the careless exposure of barbed wire and to revise the penalties for such violations. Specifically, it clarifies that it is unlawful to leave barbed wire or barbed wire fences down, strewn around on the ground, or in disrepair in a manner that is likely to injure livestock. The bill also shortens the notice period for owners to correct such violations from 10 days to 5 days, and increases the penalties from a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $25 to an infraction with a $150 fine for the first violation and a misdemeanor with a minimum $250 fine and up to 6 months in jail for subsequent violations within 5 years.
