This bill allows tenants who are victims of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, stalking, elder abuse, or other crimes to terminate their rental agreement without penalty or liability. To do so, the tenant must provide written notice to the landlord and attach certain documentation, such as a protective order or a written report from law enforcement. The tenant remains liable for rent for the month in which the agreement is terminated and any prorated days through the termination date, but the landlord cannot retain the rental deposit or charge additional fees. The landlord is also prohibited from disclosing the tenant's information or refusing to rent to the tenant based on the termination.
