Bill Summary
Relative to low income transit fares
AI Summary
This bill requires the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to implement a low-income fare program that provides free or discounted transit fares to qualifying riders on all modes of transportation operated by the authority. The bill also allows regional transit authorities to provide similar low-income fare programs or discounted pass programs. The MBTA and regional transit authorities must develop stakeholder engagement plans and implementation analyses that examine the anticipated number of benefiting riders, average fare reductions, revenue impacts, eligibility determination methods, and program administration and marketing costs. The MBTA's analysis must be filed with the state legislature by October 15, 2022.
