This bill proposes to establish a Congenital and Inherited Disorders Advisory Committee to assist the Center for Congenital and Inherited Disorders and the Department of Public Health in developing programs to ensure the availability and access to quality genetic and genomic health care services for all Iowans. The bill requires the advisory committee to ensure that all conditions included in the federal Recommended Uniform Screening Panel as of January 1, 2022, are included in the state's newborn screening, and to consider and make recommendations to the department regarding the inclusion of new conditions within 12 months of their addition to the federal panel. The bill also requires the department to include any new conditions recommended by the advisory committee within 18 months and to submit an annual status report to the General Assembly regarding the newborn screening program.
