This bill establishes special license plates for veterans in New Jersey. Eligible veterans who have been honorably discharged can apply to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to obtain these distinctive license plates, which will bear the word "Veteran." There is a $15 fee for these plates in addition to the regular vehicle registration fees, and the commission will retain enough of the fees to cover the costs of producing and issuing the plates. The surviving spouse of a deceased veteran can also retain the special plates. The commission is required to notify motorists about the availability of these plates and to promulgate rules and regulations governing their issuance and use. The bill will take effect on the first day of the seventh month after it is enacted.
