This Joint Resolution designates May of each year as "Emotional and Behavioral Disorder Awareness Month" in New Jersey to promote public understanding of these conditions, which are medical illnesses affecting a person's thoughts, feelings, mood, and ability to function daily, and can have long-term impacts on physical, social, and cognitive skills, particularly in vulnerable children who may face challenges like hyperactivity, aggression, or learning difficulties, and often do not receive treatment due to stigma or lack of access. The resolution, prompted by the recognition of National Children's Mental Health Awareness Week in early May, requests the Governor to issue an annual proclamation encouraging citizens to observe this month with appropriate activities and programs to help reduce stigma and improve access to care, ultimately supporting individuals in leading more productive lives.
