This act would take effect January 1, 2023.

AI Summary

This bill, the Fairness In Women's Sports Act, would require that interscholastic, intercollegiate, intramural, or club athletic teams or sports be designated as for males, females, or coed/mixed based on the biological sex of the participants. Teams designated for females would not be open to male students. If a student's sex is disputed, they can establish it by providing a signed physician's statement. The bill also creates a private cause of action for students who are deprived of an athletic opportunity or face retaliation due to violations of the act. The bill aims to address the inherent physiological differences between males and females that give male athletes an advantage in many sports, in order to promote equality for female athletes.
