This bill amends an existing law to require certain school security measures to be incorporated into new public school construction and existing public school buildings. The key provisions include one-way driveways leading to a visitor parking area, an access control system with remote unlocking features and cameras at the main and other entrances, a guard shack and gate for perimeter control, and secure vestibules at the main entrance. The bill also requires the adoption of certain security policies and procedures, such as prohibiting propping open doors and requiring staff to sign out and return keys. The Commissioner, in consultation with the Development Authority, may revise the architectural design and security standards as necessary to reflect new recommendations or best practices.
