This bill, the Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act, aims to extend the acute hospital care at home waiver flexibilities provided under the Social Security Act. Specifically, it would allow inpatient hospital services or inpatient critical access hospital services to include those provided by an Acute Hospital Care at Home Program, including telehealth services, during the period beginning on the date of enactment and ending 2 years after the end of the COVID-19 emergency period. The bill also provides certain flexibilities related to 24-hour nursing services, life safety code requirements, and the establishment of health and safety requirements for these Acute Hospital Care at Home Programs. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct an evaluation of the Acute Hospital Care at Home and Hospital Without Walls waivers and submit a report to Congress with recommendations.
