This bill aims to amend the Public Health Service Act to establish and support a network of Centers for Public Health Preparedness and Response. The bill would allow the Secretary of Health and Human Services, through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to award grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements to institutions of higher education, including schools of public health, or other nonprofit entities to establish or support a network of these Centers. The Centers would be required to coordinate with state, local, and tribal health departments and officials, healthcare facilities, and coalitions to improve public health preparedness and response, prioritize evidence-informed or evidence-based practices to reduce the transmission of emerging infectious diseases, and carry out activities to advance public health preparedness and response capabilities, such as identifying and disseminating promising research findings, improving awareness of evidence-informed practices, and providing technical assistance to public health entities.
