This bill amends the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to regulate the use of bait during hunting seasons for deer and elk. The key provisions are: 1. The bill defines "deer or elk baiting" as the depositing, distributing, or tending of feed in an area frequented by wild, free-ranging white-tailed deer or elk to aid in their taking. This does not include feeding wild birds or other wildlife in a manner that excludes deer and elk, normal logging or agricultural practices, or storing and using feed for agricultural purposes. 2. The bill allows individuals to engage in deer or elk baiting during open hunting seasons, but limits the bait to no more than 5 gallons of single-bite bait (chopped or diced carrots, sugar beets, or apples) spread over at least a 20-foot-diameter circle, with each piece of bait placed at least 2 feet apart. 3. The bill removes the previous provision that allowed baiting to take game as provided by an order of the commission under a separate section of the law.
