This bill requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to not approve teacher preparation institutions or alternative teaching programs unless they offer instruction on evidence-based instructional methods, characteristics and underlying factors of dyslexia, secondary consequences of dyslexia, instructional adjustments for students with dyslexia or at risk of difficulties in learning to decode accurately and efficiently, and methods for developing schoolwide and classroom infrastructures using a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework. This bill also defines key terms used, such as "dyslexia", "evidence-based", "MTSS", "science of reading", and "structured language and literacy". The bill's enactment is contingent on the passage of three other related House Bills.
