This bill requires all public institutions of higher education in Massachusetts to develop and adopt written policies to accept scores of 3, 4, or 5 on Advanced Placement (AP) exams to satisfy degree requirements. The policies must indicate whether the credit will be granted for general education, major, or elective requirements, and include procedures related to the transferability of these credits to other institutions. Institutions may only require a score higher than 3 if the chief academic officer provides evidence that the higher score is necessary for a student to be successful in a related or more advanced course. The Department of Higher Education will provide guidance on what constitutes as evidence for a higher score requirement and oversee the annual review of each institution's AP exam credit policies.
