This bill would authorize the Secretary of State and the Board of Elections to conduct a comprehensive cybersecurity assessment of Rhode Island's election systems and facilities, including the voter registration system, voting equipment, mechanisms for transmitting election results, and electronic poll books. It would also create an Election Systems Cybersecurity Review Board to review the assessments, procure a third-party assessment, and issue a report with recommendations to improve the cybersecurity of the election systems and facilities. Additionally, the bill would establish a Cybersecurity Incident Response Group to develop communication protocols in the event of a cybersecurity breach in any agency or public body, and to establish long-term policy planning and goals for addressing evolving cybersecurity threats. The bill would take effect upon passage.
