This bill prohibits food-service and retail establishments from refusing to accept cash as payment for goods or services, and calls for a civil fine of up to $2,500 for the first violation and up to $5,000 for each subsequent violation if an establishment refuses to accept cash. The bill defines "food-service establishment" as an establishment that sells food or beverages for consumption on or off the premises, and "retail establishment" as an establishment that sells consumer commodities or provides consumer services. The Department of Labor is authorized to promulgate rules to implement and enforce this law.
