This bill modifies visitation rights to an unmarried minor child in Minnesota. It allows grandparents, great-grandparents, stepparents, or other persons who have maintained a relationship similar to a parental relationship with the child to petition the court for reasonable visitation rights. The court can grant such visitation if it determines that it is in the best interest of the child and would not interfere with the parent-child relationship. The bill also repeals existing provisions that allowed grandparents or other persons who had resided with the child for an extended period to petition for visitation rights. The new provisions are effective upon final enactment of the law.
