This bill requires all public school districts, charter schools, and non-public schools in the state that participate in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to the student. The bill also requires schools to maximize access to federal funds for the cost of these programs by adopting certain federal provisions. If the cost of providing these free meals is not fully reimbursed by federal funds, the state's Department of Education will reimburse the remaining costs. Additionally, the Department of Education must work with the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to promote the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and increase the number of students directly certified for free or reduced-price school meals.
